The unemployment rate of the Arrowhead region of Northeast Minnesota is consistently higher than that of the Metro region, according to the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development labor market information.

Enbridge, a leader in the safe and reliable delivery of energy, has been active in Minnesota for more than 65 years. Enbridge’s proposed Line 3 Replacement Project  is the largest private investment in Minnesota and will provide approximately 2,100 family-sustaining construction jobs in Minnesota and deliver an economic impact of more than $2 billion. PolyMet Mining Corporation is developing a copper, nickel and precious metals mine in northeastern Minnesota, known as the NorthMet Project. The NorthMet Project is currently in the permitting process and once operational will create approximately 360 jobs paying annual wages and benefits of nearly $36 million. Twin Metals Minnesota is a Minnesota mining company pursuing the development of a copper, nickel and platinum group metals mine in northeastern Minnesota and to date has invested more than $450 million in project development activities. Twin Metals submitted a formal Mine Plan of Operation to state and federal regulatory agencies in December 2019, initiating an extensive environmental review process.
