Jobs for Minnesotans issues statement on progress of NewRange’s NorthMet Project

St. Paul, MN: NewRange Copper Nickel announced today that it has submitted the NorthMet Project’s Clean Water Act Section 404 wetland permit application and shared proposed design enhancements for the project, which are designed to limit new environmental impacts at and around the site. Jobs for Minnesotans extolls this progress and the continued advancement of the NorthMet Project.

“Today’s announcement reflects the kind of forward progress we need to see: projects that incorporate new information, public and private input, and enhanced measures to protect our natural resources while unlocking economic opportunity. It is imperative that we say yes to responsible project developers and grant them a fair and predictable opportunity to present their plans. Establishing a transparent path for responsible mining projects is not only the right approach for our environment, but also a significant opportunity for Minnesota workers, communities, and our future.”
Under Minnesota’s process, the Department of Natural Resources will determine whether a supplemental environmental review is required. At the federal level, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will evaluate the Section 404 application and determine next steps.
